CCE is proud to have collaborated with the design and construction of a solar enhanced show home in Okotoks Alberta. To facilitate the aesthetic needs of the community the (Flat Plate) solar collectors were mounted on the roof of the detached three car garage. The necessary line sets and cabling were routed in an underground chase from the garage to the mechanical room for household integration. Solar energy provides a large portion of the residential energy needs. (Solar Thermal & Electric)
This show home boasts:
- Solar Heated Domestic Hot Water for showers, baths & laundry needs.
- Solar assisted radiant heating on three floors.
- Solar Photovoltaic 2.2kw grid tied electrical system to supply the normal electrical load during daylight hours. Excess electrical power generated is fed back into the domestic power grid.
- Waste Water Heat Recovery from the used shower water to preheat the incoming water for the Solar Thermal System
- High efficiency back-up heating for extended cold periods.

Solar Collectors
- Photovoltaic collectors are available in various sizes and selected wattage output. This output is directly dependent on the exposure to solar radiation. The orientation direction and lack of shading will have a direct effect on the final output of the system.
- Solar thermal (Hot Water) collectors are available in various sizes and configurations to suite specific needs. Choose carefully between flat pate and evacuated tube configuration. Each type has its own specific advantages and disadvantages relative to the climate and required function.
- System Installation: Most systems on the market generally require their installation by a qualified professional. The application, aesthetics and modularity for future growth must be part of the evaluation.
- Solar collector installation with new construction may be a long term cost saving environmentally friendly feature for commercial or residential buildings.
